Our friend Richard told us that a log that he hadn’t put shitake spores in had shitake mushrooms on it. Nature is pretty amazing. Things reproduce and protect themselves even when they aren’t supposed to. Think of all of the plants that the conservation dept had farmers plant for wildlife cover or food that spread and now can’t be controlled. I’ve seen huge carp on the rivers when I was working on the barges that weren’t supposed to be able to reproduce that have spread like crazy. Nature always wins. I think shitakes would be a good thing to spread around, but I’m not smart enough to know if there are bad sides too.
